Attendance marks and review states
Separate each person's mark from the sheet's approval state.

Two kinds of status#
Participant marks describe attendance, such as present, late, absent or an approved absence. The sheet's workflow state describes whether staff are still preparing, reviewing or locking the record.
A saved draft may still be incomplete. Submission sends the record into review. Locking/sign-off establishes the reviewed version used by downstream workflows. Returning or reopening a sheet is an explicit action and may require additional authority.
Use the current effective record#
Approved absences can affect attendance. Review the relevant absence and session rather than entering a contradictory manual mark.
When a correction is needed after review, use the authorised unlock or amendment path and provide the required reason. Historical evidence and subsequent corrections should remain understandable. Payroll users should check reviewed attendance before finalising calculations.
